How old is a tree?

After reading a book called 'Tell Me, Tree', the students were curious about how you could find out how old trees were. In the book it talked about how each year new growth can be seen in the tree.

So we all got our outdoor shoes on and headed outside! The students ran around our yard finding the stumps and counting all the rings on them. They ranged from 60 to over 100!

Take some time exploring outdoors. We are so fortunate to have such beautiful trails around our school. See if you can locate old, fallen trees and find out how old they are by counting the rings!
