Exploring Self-Portraits

We began to explore what makes us special and unique. We read many books and talked a lot about why we like ourselves. To encourage the students to look closely at what makes them them, we set up a provocation with loose parts to allow them to explore making a self-portrait.

The students did a fantastic job observing their features and creating representations of themselves using the various loose parts available.

We read various books exploring who we are. We talked about what makes each of us special and that it is important to be proud of who we are. Our next stage of self-portrait exploration was sketching and then painting ourselves.

We are so proud of our students! Each child did such an incredible job, we will let their work speak for itself...
These portraits celebrate not only the differences in our classroom, but the creativity and talent of each child. We are so proud of their hard work.
