Pirates in Room 122!

What an exciting couple weeks in Room 122. The students have been working hard and have created a fabulous pirate ship.

Many families brought in boxes to help us create the ship. Thank you to those of you who did! The students were really excited about having boxes to play in. Their imaginations were in full force before we even began to create the ship.

We continued to read many books to get ideas about transforming our drama centre.

We learned many new words about ships. As a group we drew a diagram of a ship and labelled it with all our learning and background knowledge. This helped us inform the building of our ship.

We then began to create our ship!

'Rrrrr' New Project

P.D. decided to ask her friends what they wanted to turn our drama centre into. She used a graph to organize her information, the students were allowed to make one, two, or three choices. The clear winner was the 'treasure hunt'.

As a class, we brainstormed what we would need if we were to change the drama centre into a 'treasure hunt'.

The students quickly got to work planning and writing about what we would need. They drew pirates, ships and maps! We have read many read alouds about pirates to get ideas and learn more information.

We created the beach and treasure hunt in the sand table.

The students then created a treasure box.

We have begun to build the ship!

We are excited to watch the students get into character as pirates and for the amazing authentic, oral language opportunities to come.  Stay tuned for the final product!

'Every Child is an Artist'

We have some very talented artists in our classroom!

We put out some new art supplies for the students to create with. They worked hard to create these masterpieces! A few students wrote 'how to paint a picture' for their writing.

Here are some pictures to show you these steps.

First you sketch the picture.

Next you trace in Sharpie.

Then you erase the pencil.

Finally you paint your picture.
